Recently, a group of passionate students from Our University did exactly that. They traded their laptops for food bowls and cleaning brushes, spending a deeply meaningful day volunteering at the PAWS Animal Welfare Society. It was messy. It was hard work. It was absolutely unforgettable.
More Than Just Volunteering: It Is Heart Work
Shelter life is demanding. The dedicated team at PAWS works tirelessly, but extra hands always make a massive difference. Our students dove straight into the daily routines, taking on everything from feeding the animals to cleaning out the enclosures.
But this initiative was about much more than checking off community service hours.
Getting your hands dirty teaches you things a classroom never can. By looking after these vulnerable animals, our students developed a profound sense of responsibility and empathy. They experienced firsthand the raw, unconditional bond between humans and animals. Sometimes, the best life lessons come from a wagging tail or a quiet purr.
PAWS Animal Welfare Society relies heavily on volunteers and donations to care for hundreds of homeless dogs and cats in the Klang Valley.

Let’s be honest. Academic routines can leave you feeling drained. Burnout is a real issue for university students everywhere. Surprisingly, hard work at the shelter provided the perfect escape.
